Do Not Use When
Currently planning or anticipating significant future weight loss.
Eligibility
Healthy individuals with realistic expectations and stable weight
Example Questions
My triceps are toned, but there is a 'curtain' of skin hanging over them, is surgery the only way to cut that off?, I want to wear a sleeveless dress for an upcoming wedding, but I'm self-conscious about my saggy arm skin; what are my options?, I feel like I'm 'tucking' my arm skin into my sleeves every morning; how do I get rid of this excess flap permanently?
Example Scenarios
Individuals bothered by a "saggy" appearance of the upper arms due to aging, gravity, or weight fluctuations., Those who have completed significant weight loss and are left with redundant arm skin., Individuals experiencing a loss of skin elasticity and tone due to aging and gravity., A patient who has reached their goal weight but is self-conscious about "bat wings" at the pool or beach., An individual wanting to wear sleeveless fashions without feeling self-conscious about lack of arm tone.
FAQs
Can't I just get liposuction to fix my heavy upper arms? Liposuction is great for removing fat, but it does nothing for loose skin. In fact, if you have "crepey" or hanging skin, liposuction alone can make the problem worse by "deflating" the arm and leaving the skin looking even more wrinkled. An Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) is specifically designed to remove that redundant "apron" of skin and tighten the underlying tissue, creating a slim, defined arm that finally matches the rest of your fit physique., Where is the scar located, and will everyone see it? Dr. Lytle strategically places the incision along the inner arm or toward the back of the arm where it is most hidden during normal movement. While a full arm lift does result in a linear scar, most patients find that the trade-off—trading hanging, heavy skin for a thin, firm arm—is well worth it, especially when they can finally wear sleeveless clothing again.
Frequency
Typically a one-time surgical correction.
Intended Outcomes
Immediate improvement in arm contour, increased self-esteem and confidence, access to a wider variety of clothing styles
Limitations
Results are best optimized after weight loss is complete, significant future weight loss can negatively impact surgical results
Problems Solved
"Saggy" upper arms, skin redundancy, difficulty fitting into certain clothing styles, low self-confidence in sleeveless tops
Risks
Swelling, soreness for several days, and surgical risks discussed during consultation.
What It Is Not
Not a substitute for weight loss, not a non-invasive treatment
When to Use
When diet and exercise are unable to address excess skin and fat in the upper arms.
Price Range
The cost of your arm lift will be determined by the techniques used and the amount of work required to provide you with results that satisfy your aesthetic needs. During your consultation, Dr. Lytle can let you know what the expected cost of your arm lift in Plymouth will be and can let you know about the payment options available to you.

Process Overview

Dr. Lytle approaches arm lifts to meet your specific needs. This means adequately assessing the excess skin and excess fat. Each of these components will determine which procedure is best for you. The incisions required are determined by the severity of your condition. Minimal skin excess may be treated with an incision in the armpit alone. Moderate laxity is treated with an incision from the armpit to the elbow. Most patients fall into this category. More severe cases are rare and may require extension of the incision past the elbow onto the forearm.

Brachioplasty surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure.

You should plan to take it easy following your surgery. No strenuous activities, heavy lifting (over 10 pounds), aerobic exercises, swimming, contact sports, tennis, or golf should be planned for the first three weeks. As Dr. Lytle monitors your recovery, he will advise you when it is safe to resume specific activities.

You should plan to wear the compression garment for six weeks following surgery. Dr. Lytle will remove the drainage tubes when the drain output has lowered to a safe level.

Starting approximately 2 weeks after your surgery, you will have a 2 or 3 massages by our licensed massage therapist. This will be a lymphatic draining massage performed to decrease the amount of swelling and to improve the lymphatic drainage.

You will notice an improvement in your arm contour immediately. However, your shape will continue to improve in the following weeks as the mild swelling subsides. You should be up and walking the day following surgery, although your arm will be sore for several days. You should able to resume your normal daily activities within several days following surgery, and you should be able to resume all of your physical activities within three weeks of surgery.

"description": "A specialized suite of procedures designed to remove excess, non-elastic hanging skin and reshape the body after significant weight loss (often following bariatric surgery) to reveal the patient's new underlying shape. Patients who have undergone bariatric surgery and the subsequent significant weight loss have numerous but similar areas of concern. These areas usually include: Breast: For women, the breasts often become ptotic or saggy and a breast lift is often required. Additionally, many women lose significant breast volume with weight loss and require breast augmentation with implants. For men, several breast reduction techniques are available, depending on the degree of correction required. Face: A face lift (Rhytidectomy) is often required to remove the excess skin at the face. This can be done in conjunction with a brow lift or a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) as needed to achieve complete facial rejuvenation. Surprisingly, some patients actually require fat to be replaced back to the face. As the face loses fat, it appears older and tired. Fat grafting can significantly improve the appearance of the face and restore a youthful appearance. Abdomen: Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is often required following massive weight loss to remove the excess lower abdominal skin. For some patients, a vertical wedge excision is also often needed to removed excess skin that runs across the abdomen. A lower body lift or circumfrential lift not only removes the abdominal excess skin, but can contour the hips, outer and posterior thighs and can lift the buttocks. Arms: Brachioplasty (arm lift surgery) is a technique to lift and tighten the skin of the arm. Thighs: A medial thigh lift will remove excess skin and fat at the inner aspects of the thighs, whereas a lower body lift addresses the outer and posterior portions of the thighs.",
